Kuhmo Tire Distribution Facility receives the Tilt-up Concrete Association (TCA) Achievement Award

This unique industrial project won the 2008 Tilt-Up Achievement Award in the Warehouse/Distribution category.

Pruitt Eberly Stone provided structural design services for the 410,500 sf one-story office and distribution warehouse. The structure is comprised of a steel frame, bar joist roof system, slab-on-grade floor system and tilt-up concrete panel walls. The tire manufacturer wanted the entry to the distribution facility to incorporate similar sweeping lines as the wing motif of their new logo. To achieve this, the panels were cast and set for the entry on an angle, using steel embeds welded to both the footing and the panels to hold them in place. The corner entry was crowned by two 103,000-pound panels that meet in a “V” and the open spaces were filled with reflective blue glass. The cool tone of the colors chosen for the panels offsets the building’s red wing-like light fixtures. An aluminum awning completes the unique and creative entry design, which has already earned landmark status in the city of McDonough, Georgia, thanks to its distinctive structural and architectural features.
